Can 1927nm fractional Thulium laser add something meaningful to a professional PRP hair-rejuvenation programme?
For clinics already offering PRP, the interest in Thulium is not about replacing platelet-rich plasma. It is about combining two different treatment mechanisms: regenerative support from PRP and controlled fractional laser stimulation of the scalp.
Early clinical studies provide a credible rationale for this approach, but the evidence is still developing. This guide looks at what the research actually shows, how the combination may work and where it may fit within a clinic hair-rejuvenation programme.

What Does the Clinical Evidence Show?
The evidence is promising, but it should be kept in proportion. Direct research on 1927nm Thulium combined with PRP remains limited, and larger controlled trials are still needed.

1. 1927nm Thulium Combined With PRP
A pilot study published in the Chulalongkorn Medical Journal investigated a non-ablative 1927nm Thulium fibre fractional laser combined with autologous PRP for male androgenetic alopecia.
Nine men received three treatment sessions at monthly intervals, with fractional Thulium treatment followed by PRP injections. Six months after the final treatment, the researchers reported increases from baseline in terminal hair density, total hair density and hair mass index.
Importantly, the authors also stated that larger sample sizes, longer follow-up and randomised placebo-controlled studies were needed to establish efficacy more robustly.
2. Fractional Thulium for Pattern Hair Loss
An evaluator-blinded split-scalp study published in Lasers in Medical Science investigated 1927nm fractionated Thulium laser treatment for pattern hair loss.
The study evaluated the laser with and without post-treatment application of a growth-factor-containing solution and reported improvements in hair density and thickness, with additional benefit reported in the post-laser treatment group.
This research is relevant because it supports investigation of 1927nm fractional Thulium both as a scalp treatment and as part of a combined treatment approach.
3. Thulium With PDRN
A further study explored 1927nm fractionated Thulium laser used alongside polydeoxyribonucleotide, or PDRN, for pattern hair loss.
PDRN is not PRP, so this should not be treated as direct evidence for a Thulium-plus-PRP protocol. It is relevant to the broader research interest in pairing fractional Thulium with regenerative hair-support approaches.
The study reported improvements in hair thickness and density in the combined treatment group.
4. Ongoing Clinical Research
Clinical trial registration has also examined approaches comparing fractional Thulium with topical PRP against PRP injection for male-pattern hair loss.
A trial registration is evidence of research activity, not evidence of a successful outcome. Its relevance here is that it demonstrates continued clinical interest in how fractional laser treatment and PRP might be combined.
Reading the evidence properly
What Should Clinics Take From the Research?
There is enough published evidence to make the combination clinically interesting. There is not enough evidence to justify promising that adding Thulium to PRP will guarantee hair regrowth or reverse every form of hair loss.
That distinction matters.
The most direct Thulium-plus-PRP study involved only nine participants. Its findings are encouraging, but a small pilot study cannot provide the same certainty as multiple large randomised controlled trials.
The broader research adds plausibility: other studies have reported hair-density or thickness improvements following 1927nm fractional Thulium protocols and have explored combination treatment with growth-factor-containing or regenerative products.
